Worked for me...on a BFG 6800 GT OC...I flashed it twice once with the stock Dell bios, and another with the Extra Pipes Patch..this seems too good to be true...

Dell Bios mod only (+ pixel/vertex patch) works OK on Gigabyte 6800 GT.

It's so strange that many people can enable FastWrite, but many others can't,even with the same card, same bios, same driver.

    Maybe I should try Win2K3.

I bet that the difference is in the mobo chipset. It seems that everyone with an Intel chipset is having problems, and all NForce chipsets are doing fine.

Thank you for the writeup !! Really helfull,

my mod was sucesfull in so far as the card now shows up as Quadro 4000 and maxtreme drivers install fine.

However i will not add my vote cause i'm not sure if the mod is really fully functional. Before the flash i had ~12.5 in SPEC 8.1 3DMAX bench, after its only 14.5 ...also big models dont seem to redraw any faster then before in viewports. Gotta play some more before i make my conclusions.

My card has damaged pixel units so i had to uncheck 2 of them in RT to get rid of artifacts.

one thing is that when i modified the dell bios for my settings.. there was no option for 1.2V in the editor .. i left it at 1.4V 1.1V (should be 1.2V) and 1.1V .. but that shouldnt make much difference should it ? Maybe i should change it to 1.3V.... hmmmm

    UPDATE:
went back to original bios, got artifacts with the beta drivers and the performance was just not there,.. i guess my card isnt capable of being anything else that it is ;/

There are some strange reports that seem to indicate no real performance increase (SPECapc) in Maya whatsoever.
That leads to suspicion that the BIOS mod is only inflating SpecViewperf benchmarks while the SPECapc application specific benchmarks don't show any improvement at all and are far from the results that the true Quadro FX 4000 is achieving.
Does anyone here that works in Maya have access to both true Quadro FX 4000 and a BIOS modded 6800GT/Ultra?
We need some confirmation on this, since a lot of us were probably keeping their hopes up to save some money by buying the 6800GT/Ultra and doing the mod instead of buying the real Quadro FX 4000 (i know i did), but NVIDIA seems to have another trick up their sleve that eliminates that option out of the picture... :(

Those are syntetic SpecViewperf results - i am more interested in the SPECapc results since they are the real usage tests (they work inside the 3D Apps)...
