Indeed, although both cards packs quite the same graphic processing power, the CPU overhead caused by AMD GPU will kill the AMD CPU. The much lower power consumption of GTX 1050Ti is a bonus (75W vs 180W), if it maters to you.

FX6300@4.6GHz would certainly do the trick, but you have to have a more than a decent motherboard to sustain such an O/C. And given that you will have to change the motherboard too, as FX6300 requires AM3, a better option would be an Haswell i3 and any H81 motherboard. And then you can go either way, GTX 1050Ti or AMD 7970.

Division mostly. Rainbow Six Siege, Elite Dangerous, some MMOs maybe. Kaveri performs bad especially in MMOs. So i'm thinking with 6 core Vishera i would see improvement in low fps range and fps spikes...

I know, in Division 1050ti have lower fps compared to 280x...about 20%+. This is a lot. 380x have about the same performance as 7970/280x in Division ---

Only this stops me atm :)

MMOs and generally open world games are the worst for any amd cpu :/

780 isnt faster than 280X this days. In RE7 Tahiti is even faster than a GK110.

Btw, fr33jack you are right tho. 280X and 380X are in pair in most games :

The statement was that 7970 will do worse than 1050 Ti on an AMD CPU. Of course that 7970 will hit higher fps on light CPU scenes, but on heavy ones it will go definitely under 1050 Ti.

I was talking about driver, whether he will see that 10 fps boost in AC:U by switching to fx6300 with 280x for example. Also, that fx is sometimes worse than his current cpu in that vid.

I love how people take still seriously sites posting the "minimum" framerate, as if it means something.

Apart from that, that only solidifies that you should get the 1050Ti.

It means absolutely nothing. You need variance and 99th percentile numbers to really get smoothness and where the thing fluctuates.

7970 or 1050ti is a very tough choice indeed!...

    That's what's important.

Didn't even look at the video though so percentile is important.

Yup i have seen this one some time ago ;)
My R280X went to my Bratan' ->
He Plays: Diablo III, WoT, WoWarships, BF3, Victor Vran, Race07 + Mods and New DOOM
He has PhenomII x4 970 at 3.9GHz on Sabertooth 990FX

He is happy with that build.

He will get from me my PII x6 and 16GB 200MHz DDR3 after i make my RyZEN Rig.
    I know but he don't need new MoBo+CPU+RAM :D

    UPD>
If you don't Play much, and if you Preparing for some serious GPU (like Fury for 299€ or Med. Vega in Summer)
Then Pick 1050Ti, and don't change CPU and such, just wait for AMD ZEN
    Then Build Ultimate Game Machine.

Or Best Idea -> Don't waste Money ! Save and then Pick something worth every penny
    Better Idea:
    First Zen, Mobo & DDR4
Then some Good GPU, 90USD is a lot of money ;)

I know i'm kinda late to the topic but I still wanna give my two cents.

I would lean to the 1050ti simply because its newer tech and performs on par. If you're thinking of selling it and then getting a second hand 7970 i'd harshly advise you not to.

The 7900 series are good cards for gaming and bitcoin mining and I can tell you, every card on the used market has been beaten to death by its owner. My 7950 lasted a grand 3 months before it crapped the bed. My friend's r9 280 died about 6 months after his purchase.

They are good cards but generally won't last you very long unless you get lucky, throwing away a brand new card with warranty just for some more "raw" power is not worth it. Whatever advantage the 7970 has is wasted on 1080p.

Ok, first of all i want to thanks all of you for the help you gave me. Was a tough choice indeed. With my sh*tty CPU and all XD And for the "confirmation" about how bad overheading is while using some AMD cpu's+gpu's. I know this for sure now...

Second of all...don't laugh XD ...dude was selling dead 1050 Ti. He did not want it checked before the deal. Furmark, any other benchmarks and whatnot - no way. I offered him more money...he began to backing off. In the end he removed his selling ad and blocked my cell number, lil sh*t :)

But i was already hyped, right XD Aaand...I bought myself a GIGABYTE GTX 780 WINDFORCE 3X OC rev 2.0 for 125 usd XD

Did a first and quick test to see how it performs with my Kaveri compared to my old 7970/ 280x. DX12 ofc. I've got + 15-20 fps more on average. And no more chaotic spikes to 30-35 fps minimum. GTX 780 - 55-80 fps/ 73 average with same game settings (custom high-medium-low) as i played on 7970 a week ago and 280x a year ago. Bench results - 92% cpu usage, 96% gpu usage. Didn't overclocked yet. With 7970/280X - 67-70% cpu usage, 99% gpu usage.

It's more. With 7970/280x In certain parts of the city i've got 25-30 fps all the time. Lowering the settings didn't help much. About 5 or 6 places/ areas in the whole city where fps was barely playable. Such as near the "Chains" world boss in Stuyvesant area. Exactly this place, 25-30 fps depending on day time ---

    No more. Kaveri + 780 - about the same 55-80 fps/ 73 average in those areas. And in total, Kaveri + 7970/280X - 25-60 fps/ 52 average...

Time to sleep for couple of hours...It was a long night XD

It's quite shocking that most websites don't even use these metrics. We really have no idea what we buy without them.

Nice, that's much better then 1050TI..

    780GTX Oc's to ~ 1200 - 1230mhz, 1150MHz is 100% guarantied.

    Idk anymore but I think my old did 1150mhz @ 1.162v (stock volts) or 1215mhz @ 1.187v?.

1228Mhz @ 1.2v. Not the world record, but not bad either. But the vram - only +50Mhz (6200Mhz effective). +75Mhz = ctd. Worst vram oc in my practice.

Yeah that's very good OC (~ 1150mhz 780Ti), don't mind that vram much.. I remember I kept it near stock, didnt see much of a difference.

His APU isnt working well with 7970, thats why there is a difference with the 780. Paired with an i5/i7 a 1150mhz TahitiXT and 1150mhz GK110 there isnt much of a difference, especially with newer games.

RE7 performs better on your previous card.

I remember when Tj had 780 and i always compared my scores and game benchmark to his.
