Don't need to roll back to 12.4 for that matter, 13.1 are fine, and you can just use their CCC.

A forum mod at AMD Extended Support forums just made a reply post saying that 13.9 will be the last driver for HD4000, HD3000 and HD2000 series VGA cards, and it won't be updated to support Windows 8 but that they plan to publish an article on how to manually install it on 8/8.1.

I think that's very unfair because there are still games being released that list the Radeon HD3850 or HD2000 as the minimum system requirement AMD VGA card, e.g. Batman: Arkham Origins; Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut.

And I just found out about FLEM - but it says on their website that it doesn't work with AGP cards. Well I have an AGP Radeon HD3850. So does that mean I can't use newer drivers modded with FLEM and my VGA card?
Edit: Someone on the FLEM forum seems to have done it. I could use a tl;dr

Of course, eventually there is no point in continuing to release new legacy drivers for the HD4000, HD3000 and HD2000 series cards, but considering AAA titles are still being released that are developed to run on these cards specifically, it is still too soon to stop releasing updated drivers. What about game specific optimizations? Older hardware needs those most of all, right?

If so, we need to tell AMD that it's unfair to do this- not just for users of these cards, but for users of cards they will prematurely end extended support for in the future.

Edit: Ten years ago, someone told me that AMD had terrible driver support. Ten years later and it still seems that reputation is deserved.

They don't give a damn about legacy users. They did something similar when Vista and 7 were released. Just let it go and think in something else.

The 12.11 Modded Legacy Driver should support your Graphic Card. You can either choose the UPD build to Upgrade your current driver or the Non UPD build to do a full installation of the Modded Driver.

Thanks! Does that mean I would just be harvesting some things I need from that 12.11 Modded Legacy Driver to create a version of the latest driver that will work? So there's no point in using a more recent AGP driver, like 12.6, 13.1 or Beta 13.4.

The 12.11 Modded legacy driver Non UPD Build is large combo of different drivers integrated into one driver to give Legacy Users the best support possible. The UPD Build is a large combo of Drivers that Upgrades and enables any driver the User wants to use, meaning you can install any driver then upgrade it to the 12.11 Modded legacy Driver to enhance the driver support for your Graphic Card.

Content removed because trolling and insulting other users is tolerated for some people in this forum. I do not stay in places where such behaviour is tolerated and everything I did in such places is removed.

Hmm, AMD HD 7750 is faster than the HD 4850. Also the HD 4850 Consumes 105 Watts while the HD 7750 only consumes 55 Watts (big difference in power consumption). Plus, it also has support for Dx11.1 so you can expect to use it for a few more years before AMD decide to end support for that GPU.

    Other Thoughts
Your current HD 4650 should be better than the HD 6450. I recommend skipping it and getting an HD 6670 which perform similarly to an HD 4850. The HD 5670 is also another good Graphic Card that performs similarly to the HD 4850 plus they both should consume less power than the HD 4850.

You have to install a driver first? So I have to find a driver that already supports my system?

What if the driver is a newer build than 12.11? Would that just downgrade back to 12.11?

Not really, if you already have a driver installed for your Graphic Card you can install the UPD Build, it does not matter if it's the default WDDM driver or any other driver.

The 12.11 Modded legacy driver should be newer than the latest 13.9 Driver. But I recommend waiting on the latest UPD build. which should be released later today.

That's how I feel. While I do always go for the best card for the money, it's a big minus for AMD that their cards don't get supported for long, or for the operating systems.

I look at Nvidia's cards and see that even the Geforce 6 series got official support for Windows 8.
I see that Nvidia still supports their DX10 cards in the main drivers, and those drivers support Vista, whereas AMD's latest drivers for Vista was 13.4 WHQL.

And as you said, those cards are still enough for modern games as long as you are prepared to lower the settings. DX11 aside, the HD 7770 isn't really appeasing for someone with an HD 4870/4890

Hi all, since I have a Mobility Radeon HD5650 and I would upgrade to Windows 8.1 there's a trick, like on Windows 7, to make videos works (black videos/screen)?
Unfortunately I cannot install 12.1 drivers on 8.1, and I cannot recreate the "fix".
It's really a shame that in TWO years this bug is still present!

    Thanks.

What drivers do you think are best for 4870x2? 11.12 or 12.2? And what are the tweaks you make? thanks

I recommend Using the 11.12 build for Crossfire. After installing the driver only you can upgrade the 11.12 driver to the 12.11 Modded Legacy Driver by downloading and installing the UPD Build.

    Other Thoughts
Tweaks, implemented basically allow the driver to work normally within Windows. So, bugs such like Green Screen Videos, broken hardware acceleration should extinct for most users. Support for Third Party Overclocking Software, Updated Crossfire Profiles (No need to install Application Profiles), UPD build allows user to upgrade any driver to the 12.11 Modded Legacy driver, Allows User to change Catalyst version to any version number. Text Corruption in FireFox and any performance related problem can be resolved via the PerF Switchers and the FireFox Text Corruption Fix.

If you are referring the KB2670838 platform update issue that causes text corruption in legacy cards unless content.azure is disabled (or backends set to cairo instead of D2D), is there also any manual way to patch drivers to replicate this fix? Thanks.
