+1. Bug free HW does not exist. As you said, most of the time SW workarounds (at different levels) correct those problems. On designs I'm working on, we are doing the same. If our low level drivers/BIOS cannot mask the problem we send "coding recommendations" to our customers to avoid any problem in the final products.

The USB 3 problem is not in the CPU but on the “Lynx Point” chipset. So maybe some MB manufacturers will propose a replacement when a fix will be available.

Is DDR4 expected to come out anytime soon for regular consumers so it can be paired up with Haswell?

Nope, Haswell-E will be ddr3 too.

DDR4 is apparently reserved for Haswell server edition..

Noctua needs to hurry up with their new coolers they showed at Computex 2012.

Else i'm gonna have to go with a NH-D14.

I'll pass, Haswell was never been in my cards and my IVB works really well, I see no reason for me to upgrade.

There really is no reason to upgrade if your coming from Ivy, or even Sandy for that matter. Aside from platform power reduction and integrated graphics performance Haswell isn't really bringing anything to the table. High estimates paint it at 15% clock for clock performance in general purpose tests. The only good thing might be the improvements to the IHS connection that anand hinted at.

There isn't even any need to upgrade if you got an Ivy Bridge. Not even Sandy Bridge if you ask me.

I would come from the First Generation i7's and would be quite a leap.

Exactly why I said that Haswell isn't in my cards. Sure there are some performance improvements and new ISA features, but it's not worth doing an upgrade over since I would need a new motherboard and CPU, that'll cost me about $500 in itself. It's really not worth it, especially since I haven't used up the most out of IVB yet either.

Give me time to buy a new Sabertooth X79 MB instead.

Haswell-E will likely use a new socket so that won't be advised.

I'm glad I went for Ivy on release all things considered, I wasn't expecting a big leap with Haswell and now we're looking at limited supply due to these issues? I'll probably end up waiting until Skylake (Or an AMD equivalent).

Yes it will use a new socket, also its to far away.. Probably around Q4 2014

My plan was to go with IB-e 8core(16threads) & x79, but Haswell looks more advanced.
I like that new 7way execution engine, all currecnt ones have the same 5way even oold conroe had this 5way, so i know it will preform better just becuase of that, also a little better single threaded optimization and better HT is very interesting. If only LGA1150 packed more cores and not max 4 (8threads)..

I still haven't seen a reputable source come straight out with the USB bug. Until I hear it from a reputable source or see it on the final silicon, this is all mere rumors.
