    - nope it won't bottleneck with this config (even with a low i5 btw) but put your money in a decent mother board.

-is the 3930K a better choise? for sure because it's a "K" and you can overclock better.

-in normal resolution as 1920X1080 you will have no issue at all with 680GTX in SLI, i am without bottleneck and full Fps with my PC wich is lower in spec than your choise... so no worry at all.

    enjoy your new rig :)

My qx9650 at 4ghz bottlenecks just 1 480. put the 480 in this system and its like a free gpu upgrade

These are really personal things, for example I can easily see the difference between 60Hz and 75Hz (which I use). 60Hz is noticeably less smooth.

Didn't say you didn't. Just added my personal findings.

Gotcha. I thought you were confusing what I said about fps with refresh. Sorry about that.

It's not the high FPS that makes it smooth it's the ability to keep your framerate above 60 FPS at all times.

Running GTX 670 3-way SLi on a standard clocked Core i7 3820. Res' is 1920x1200 untill I find the right 27" 2560x1440 screen. I just add a bunch of AA levels and I'm happy with the image quality and the performance.

Just get one 680, 2 seems overkill and waste of money.

No, you won't have any bottleneck (but I'd still advise on a slight OC on the cpu). If you pump enough AA and other eyecandy most modern games will become gpu limited anyway, even at 1080p.

What do you plan to use the pc for? For a gaming rig the i7 3930k would be complete overkill and you would barely have any performance advantage compared to an i5 yet the CPU-mobo-combo would cost you around 3 times as much. HT is completely worthless for gaming, some games even run around 5-10% slower when HT is activated.

I notice no difference in gaming with or without HT

You won't notice a 5% difference when playing, only when running a benchmark. Just look at a few CPU benchmarks, there are some games in which an i5 with 100MHz less will be faster than an i7. That is caused my HT.

I told you look at some CPU gaming benchmark around the net. Those on hardware sites. In some games like Starcraft 2 for example my i5 2500k @ stock will outperform your i7 2600k @ stock as long as HT is activated.

no I asked you for benches, you made that claim not me.

the 2600k is a tad faster in the majority of benches? and the difference is very little in all scenarios. Where is the proof that HT is the cause of this?

The 2600k is faster in only 6 of the 10 benches. Yet the 2600k has 100MHz more and a third more cache. The architecture is otherwise identical so it stands to reason that he should win all the benchmarks. He does not, and HT is the only logical explanation.

I am not seeing a 5-10% difference like you said. More like nominal. Or margin for error.
