Got my Doom copies running via DDEngine yesterday.

I also downloaded the hires texture pack, "HQ" sound pack and HQ UI pack and ran them with D2, Final D, and Ultimate D.

I tried the 3D models but they were awful imo and aren't in keeping with the original games so that's a definite no no.

I gotta say this really brings the DOOM experience to the 21st century while staying true to the original! Works flawlessly too (using the latest stable version).

The only "violation" is the free mouselook, ie being able to look up and down.
However, I think this doesn't ruin the experience but instead gives the games a modern touch.
PLUS this means now you actually HAVE to aim your weapon at enemies higher / lower than you when autoaim is disabled.

@kanej2007 I can post some screens later if you wish, at work atm. However by all means go get this, you'll like it.

(BTW picked up a copy of Outlast (on sale) while getting the Doom bundle from Steam.
Already ruined some perfectly good underwear... anyone know a way to import the Super Shotgun into Outlast :wanker:)

not that it matters, but you sure this is a Source port? The addons have .pk3 extensions which would indicate Quake 3 engine imo.

Or did I just misunderstand what you're talking about...

edit: I assume you meant "source" as in source code. So never mind ;)

I have all these games on floppy or CD plus backed up on a hard drive. Floppy drives are extinct on new computers.

I knew about this and it was cool running Doom, Doom2, Heretic, and Hexen with high res graphics and having optional controller support. All you need is the .WAD file.

Yeah, should be set, having EAX on too and got the HQ sound addon, sounds good!

It's pretty insane how addictive and brilliant this game still is after 20 years.

I mean, who will even remember CoD in twenty years?

with heretic, the original music, just by tweaking resmpling, 3d and eax it's just mind blowing, so good music

Sounds like I need to get Heretic/Hexen too then.

Only tried the shareware versions of both back in the day (from a CD-ROM of PC Format I think) and never got into them properly. Sure, they seemed more advanced than Doom but I shunt the lack of shotguns in FPS games

Thanks AsiJu. Whilst not perfect, it's a huge improvement compared to the original.

Will give this a try later on this evening.

Just a reminder. Has anyone downloaded and used the HQ Metal Soundtrack for Doom?

Sounds SICK if your a hardcore classic fan of Doom.

If anyone wants the link for the metal soundtrack for Doom, let me know.

Aye, I too was very impressed. Kudos to ibitato for starting this thread! Would otherwise have probably gone the rest of my life without ever knowing about this, which would have been a huge loss :)

The DDEngine is also very easy to setup and use and runs flawlessly (so far), which is impressive considering this is such a total overhaul using the original .wads.

    me wants too, wants badly!

I think I tried using this on Heretic or Hexen a year or so ago and it didn't work out too well. I'm more surprised that some fans haven't just did remakes of these games using a more modern freeware engine or something. I know there is a hexen for Doom 3 engine but I think it was never finished or something.

on settings tab you have several sound output plugins that can be configured
