Over at CeBIT OCZ is showing the OCZ Vector PCIe, the whole whopping 960 GB unit actually. The PCIe x4 (gen 2) slot based storage unit will be based on two controllers and will become available in 2... OCZ Vector PCIe Is Pretty Darn Fast !
That's the ticket right there... no 6Gb/s limitation, free SATA ports. Something to use my x4 slot for - like they were made for each other. Same speeds across all data types? Sold, when can I get it?
What's the big deal, any two new ssd's get better numbers in R0, and I would bet for a whole lot less money too. That unit has two controllers so it comes in an R0 setup already.
Problem: We're still locked at 7 expansion slots. So let's consider: tril SLI, 6 slots, dedicated soundcard, 1 slot, PCIe SSD, ....oops, out of slots. I guess we need a new formfactor for mainboards with 8-10 expansion slots. There are already a few cases that support that many. Of course that also means we need a platform that delivers far more PCIe lanes than the ones we have now. Or they could deliver thaat special PCIe connector in place of the SATA ports already. Same speed, no expansion slot sacrificed.
Still waiting to see what this brings to the party http://rog.asus.com/199862013/news/gallery-raidr-express-ssd/
