Sweet, now I can market mine as a "classic" or "collector's edition" and charge a substantial premium. First $1500 takes it! :spam:
Just because nVidia tells TSMC to stop producing GF110 chips, doesn't mean eVGA is going to run out of cards anytime soon....
from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense because the production cost of the 680 (being 256bit) is far less. The inflated price it is now is only because its better than the 580.
Maybe if your 570 dies a year or two from now. My GTX 295 just died last month, and when I RMA'ed it, EVGA customer service told me that they would replace with a GTX 570. However, when they finally got my GTX 295, they tried for a week to get another GTX 295 in their used stock to test out just so they wouldn't have to send me a GTX 570 (They failed). If your 570 dies in a year or two, they might send you a GTX 660, or 760, or whatever is equal, or greater performance....or they might just get an old GTX 570 or 580 to pass muster...
Not that I want it to fail but ya never know - that was the great thing about BFG that the 2 cards out of nearly 15 that I had from them that gave me problems I would send in and they upgraded each time over what I sent in. I even sent them in a 6800 GT and they returned me back a 7800GT - I called and said hey I'm running SLI with another and now I can't.. so they sent me a brand new 7800GT and said just return the other 6800GT i was using
100% wrong. Several review cards blew up due to voltage increases and it was a limited release. Now if you have proof to the contrary please present it now
look what the 680 caused rich guy http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Radeon-HD_7970-HD_7970-HD_7770-GTX_680,15340.html#xtor=RSS-998
Ive seen the 7's price cut, no point in a 680 now, as you can get a card with the same performance, 1gb more ram, for less, Nvidia will have to respond with a cut of their own, but that could be unlikely, seen as they are having yield problems, so can't make many. Not trolling at all, just put GTX 590's blowing up in Google, and fill your boots, even has a link to a big thread on here about them going boom when you try to OC them.
It's not wrong bro. That's the whole reason why I went GTX 580 SLI at the time.... I was looking forward to the GTX 590 until people got a hold of them and they started blowing up. Sure they were fine if you didn't OC them but, they were marginally slower than GTX 580 SLI, especially OC'd to 875 core which I ran mine at.
the first review samples blew up, that was all the hoopla, after that they put restrictions on voltage control, then they were like any card, mostly good and some rma, just like any card out there. the cards blowing up turned away a lot of people including me. the card got a weak pwm and add the voltage the rewiews were putting on them killed it
