Ik keep hearing people say that 192bit isn't wide enough for high-res, but never do I see any proof for this.
I remember seeing some tests where it really didn't matter.

Well it depends on the game, graphics, and your definition of high res. If it's a shltty low def console port with FXAA like Skyrim then no it's not really a problem.

    Arma3 on the other hand......lagfest.

***Actually Arma3 is a bad reference since it runs like crap no matter what hardware is used.
BSI have a proud history of developing poorly coded engines that wouldn't hit 60fps on a NASA supercomputer.

MetroLL or Maybe Crysis3 might be better examples......

The 660Ti's don't cut it, I know that. I grabbed the monitor while it was on sale with a plan to upgrade soon.

Looking at all the reviews, to run things how I want I am going to need either 770 4gb SLI or 780 3b SLI, which would be a LITTLE more future proof(even though that doesn't really exist)

I think the only reason I would get 770 SLI is to hold me over to Maxwell because they are less expensive.
The 780 SLI might get me past Maxwell, or maybe until the Maxwell refresh.

Can anyone confirm EVGA has been using Elpsida ram on the Classifieds?? I heard some people are not getting theirs with the Samsung ram anymore?

Anyone know about the memory on the Classies?

Getting close to buying two of 'em.

I am really torn between 770 classifieds or 780 classifieds.

    That's $1000 vs. $1400.

I am late to the party here and I just keep wondering if I should get the 770's to hold me over to Maxwell.
The again the 780's might just get me past Maxwell.

    I can't decide!

Would you guys go Lightning or Classified??

I would recommend 670sli or regular 770s. You can overvolt most of the 700 cards with the new afterburner, so unless you're pplanning on pumping an obscene amount of voltage through, a classified isn't really needed since you'd have too much heatwwithout water cooling . Personally I grabbed two 4gb 670 cards to use until maxwell refresh or Volta launch for 500 dollars. I should be fine with 1440p with 2x MSAA or Fxaa on top settings in most games for a long while and I run 110-120hz. I debated 770sli but it isn't that superior for nearly 2x the price overclock to overclock anyway.

670 sli is not going to cut it for high IQ settings man.
The 4gb and increased bandwidth will help, sure, but the performance of the 670's is not going to be very far off from my overclocked 660 ti 3gb's.

It is for sure not worth the money to go from a 660ti to a 670, that's just asinine.

Are you actually running a 1440p monitor with those cards?

Considering it's 40%+ at worst oc'd faster than a single GTX 780 oc'd provides... yes. My single 780 oc'd in BF3 was able to come close to holding full Ultra with MSAA off & FXAA enabled with 90 degree vertical FOV at 95-100fps+ for 95% of the match durations on many maps. On some of the more demanding ones the bare minimums were 70ish and average 85-90. A 670 4GB SLI setup oc'd will outpace that by 40-50% depending on how lucky I am on oc'ing or not. Other games were easy to pretty much max and hang out at 90+ fps like Dirt Showdown (2x-4x MSAA) and I'll benefit from the extra horsepower by getting to cap my monitor's refreshrate pretty much full-time now.

I hadn't seen what you were running in the OP, but the 660ti is a good bit slower than the 670 due to having a 128+64 bus with uneven speeds to different amounts of the VRAM, rather than a full 256-bit one, as well. While you're right it won't be a night-and-day change there, you are basically talking about paying over $1000-1500 to bump MSAA from 2x or 4x, to 8x in a handful of the newest games with identical or 99% identical settings, and no benefit due to running fast anyway already on anything older than a year. I very much like to have every slider on max, but at 2560x1440 you don't need more than 2x or 4x MSAA in the worst cases, and FXAA looks better in many cases since it handles alpha aliasing and shader aliasing that MSAA doesn't anyway. Personally I'll live with your so-called "not going to cut it" and struggle to play with a notch lower AA and every other setting the same :p .

^Theimported1 is right. Going from 660Ti's to 670's would be an exercise in stupidity.

wait the R9 & R7 release in a couple of weeks and there will be a cut in the price of the 780/titan, with your 660 sli you are future proof for the 2 or 3 months coming :)

Nvidia don't usually cut prices so I would not hold my breath on this.

"Expected" don't get me wrong I'd love to see it just not getting my hopes up. Nvidia knows its fanboys will pay their prices.

The only time I remember nvidia lowered prices because of competition is the 260 and 280. The 500 series remained constant with the amd 7000 series and they did not lower those prices only just before the 600 series came out.

Yeah it's only speculation but it may happen. I wouldn't rule it out given Nvidia's dominance is becoming increasingly undermined by AMD.

Should know within a month anyway......it would suck to buy a card only to have the price drop a week later, no harm in waiting imho.

    Even GTX 770 in SLI would be more than enough @ 2560 x 1440 @ 60hz

I would know, i have MSI GTX 770 Lightning in SLI using a Dell Ultrasharp U2711 @ 1440p and games run silky smooth.

Tbh a 690 at 2560*1440 is fine for most games at 60hz. Once you go higher than 60 near 100 or 120hz then a 2nd 770+ is gonna really benefit you.
Otherwise if your on 60hz 1 card will be enough tbh.

For me to get 120hz constant in most if not all games would require a 2nd 690 as the FPS can drop from time to time depending on the game on levels of AA that are applied.

Next time around when i upgrade my card ill get 2 cards to make sure i get 120hz constant on all or most games.

The 660Ti is not 128+64 in that sense.

For the 2GB version, it's 192-bit for the first 1.5GB and 164-bit for the last 512MB.
For the 3GB version, it's 192-bit for all the VRAM.

This is certainly not the (potential) issue here. The issue here in memory bandwidth. Going from 660Ti to 670 is not a good move in terms of GPU horsepower as they both use the same GPU, but you never know how much that 192-bit bus is holding you back at 1440p until you go 256-bit or 384-bit. The 660Ti practically collapses at higher resolutions while the 7950 still goes strong, this is an indicator. It used to be the case that they performed similarly at lower resolutions, but even that is no longer the case.

If you don't go 780 SLi I would consider going for the R9- equivalents of the 7970 instead of 770 SLi. 384-bit bus vs. fast 256-bit bus there is still 22% advantage stock (1500MHz) vs. stock (1750MHz). They're also cheaper at $300. It's bonkers for the 770 to be selling at $400 these days.

Obviously, waiting for new AMD cards to release is also a good idea, due to both the possibility of Nvidia price cuts and more choice between the two.

As I said I hadn't seen that he was running 660Ti's originally. So, I typed the advice without knowing his setup. However I'm hard-pressed to see what he wants as an upgrade here as I said, I was on a 780 and quite happy but the 2x 4GB 670's are much faster... a GTX 680 won't be a giant bump up either by those standards if you're going to say the 670 which is a little slower isn't one (and typically oc's higher than the 680 which makes up the difference oc-to-oc).

I run 2560x1440 110hz and am running games at 100+ fps virtually full-time with everything maxed other than MSAA. CPU bottlenecking is much more common when trying to push 90+, honestly, in the titles I've tried.
