Dear gurus I have decided to upgrade my cpu and motherboard from Intel q8200 and p43 chipset based motherboard. I have decided on amd fx 8320 and gigabyte ga 970a ds3. I would be using these for gaming for 3yrs, and will change my graphics card maybe two times in the time being. I was thinking of getting a cpu cooler next year and then oc. * is this a good combination? * will this bottleneck in the future; core i5 3450 which is available at same price but its mobo costsabout 27 dollars more in here and it cannot be oc'ed. * for three years which one will be better fx 8320 (will oc) or core i5 3450? Please help. Thank you. N.b. Will use it with 7870xt.
I wouldn't overclock with the ga 970a ds3 as it doesn't have VRM heat sinks. As for picking Intel or AMD it comes down to what you want, lots of per core performance on 4 cores (Intel) or decent per core performance on 8 cores (AMD).
I just want my cpu not to be a bottleneck for games for next 3 years than which one should i choose? Also suggest a mobo at the same price maybe with vrm heatsink? Also i would not oc that much. Please help ona tight budget!
Please need help: Which one would be better for gaming for three years i5 3450 or fx 8320? Cpu will remain the same but graphics card may change after 1.5 years. It should be just that it should no bottleneck in the coming years and please take over-clocking into consideration. I know that 3 years is a long time and my budget is low; mostly cpu's don't last long but i just want to know the views of the gurus.
The 8320 will be better but that is a bad motherboard as mentioned. Where are you buying from....NewEgg or...?
Ok now the one confusion between i5 3450 and fx 8320 is gone. Thanks. I live in India and will buy locally, and these are are my options: You may mention some other model too, I'll look into them. 1) gigabyte ga 970a ds3 (is this that bad a motherboard) this one is very affordable here. And 2) asus m5a97 le r2.0. Your inputs please:
Both boards are unsuitable for 8320 especially overclocking. There is a reason they are cheap. The M5A97-LE has 4+1 phase uncooled vrm. M5A97-Evo or GA-970A-UD3 is better. Can u link to some website where we can have a look a and make suggestions?

How about this almost in my budget has heatsink over vrm: Msi 970a g46 http://www.msi.com/product/mb/970A-G46.html
Please gurus are there no budget mobos that i suggested that can be used for oc'ing? Gurus need input please. Or will i have to settle for core i5 3450 + asus p8b75 mlx?
For gaming you would want an i5, this should be quite obvious. We aren't talking very small differences here.
From the link you posted the ASUS M5A97 is prob best but that site doesn't have much selection....is there another online store you can link to? Are you being annoying again?
Please go away @OP Please look up benchmarks for yourself, the FX lags behind quite significantly when looking at cpu bound games, for example Skyrim If things are looking like that you won't be able to get a good overclocking board, again get an i5. Lesser overclock or not, per mhz squeezed out will be more rewarding on the i5
I'm no fan of MSI nor their UEFI interface, it's really weird and poorly laid out. Just get this board: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4396#ov My next CPU upgrade may be AMD again as well, Intel's lead is starting to erode again. I love my rig, but I could have saved money continuing the AMD route instead of going Intel. Oh well, Bulldozer sucked and Piledriver proved to be a great revision. Like going to Phenom II from Phenom I. Don't mind the Intel fanboys, they can get annoying. deltatux
Yes yes we all know how Intel fanboys love Skyrim and Starcraft benchmarks. While Skyrim may not favor AMD I still manage decent fps maxed out... Other titles like Far Cry 3 and Metro Last Light see about 75-85fps max settings (normal tess and 2xSSAA for Metro).
I'm not saying FX is better than i5 (well it would be faster than 3470 OP referred to) only that there isn't as big of a difference as some would believe...and seems gap is closing with new games. I'll run some benches and post results..... Interesting AnandTech read..... http://www.anandtech.com/show/6934/choosing-a-gaming-cpu-single-multigpu-at-1440p
eighty1 why aren't you buying from Flipkart? They're supply chain is excellent and deliver anywhere in India.. FX-8320 AMD AM3+ socket motherboards page- My suggestion to go for either Asrock 990FX Extreme4 OR ASUS M5A99X EVO Personally, i'd prefer the Asus one.. Their intel motherboards are excellent, can't speak for the AMD ones though..
