If this was asked few months ago, I would've said no. But recent driver updates fixed some critical mishaps and now I'm a happy consumer.
Mainly with Shogun 2 where PC would hard-lock and require manual shutdown. It had something to do with AMD drivers having some sort of conflict with older chipsets (which I had). This was fixed few months ago through driver update.
I had one in mind since the 7970s released. They DO have the best GPU cooling out of any air coolers, period! BUT...what held me back was the VRM temperatures...they never took care of those, and to be fair, neither did most aftermarket GPU cooling manufacturers...those heatsinks, I got some of those, and yeah, what I've heard is that they don't work too well. I haven't had the chance to try them because I got a stock VRM heatsink on my Gigabyte HD7970. I mainly got water in mind because of the VRM temps issue. I wanted to go crazy with the cards. It seems you always had to hack a solution in order to cool VRMs if transitioning from a stock cooler (which cools VRMs better!!!) to another air cooler / universal GPU waterblock (full cover waterblocks solve the VRM temps issues but they cost a lot + they can only be installed on a couple cards or so, like 7950 / 7970.)
accelero vrm heatsinks suck. had 2 on my 580s and after installing games like crysis would make the card crash after a few mins(vrm go to hot.)
One of worst things on them is to leave them on automatic. Because They cool GPU so well they do not need to make much airflow which even further reduces efficiency of those small heatsinks for VRMs.
Happy with my 7950 more now with the new drivers! have fixed my problems with Guild Wars 2 (screen clitches)
I voted yes but the truth is it's a normal GPU, there is one like, every year or two - or somet. The only thing which would make a GPU special, is if the % increase in performance over last years equivalent model was larger then the previous. Other than that - it's a GPU, same each release, bar the fact some take a little more time to iron out bugs etc with drivers. Every generation it's the same old thing, little more FPS, useless features and BS marketing next gen... little more FPS, more useless features and BS marketing... Repeat... I have been in the scene a long time.... I had a TNT2
