DCUII TOP has major BIOS issues and is known to crash. Very unstable.

Downclock your Core and memory by 15-25mhz intervals at a time to see if it will stop crashing.

I know a few people who had to do this on these cards.

I know you say you downclocked the memory, but I'm betting you need to take that core down to 1150-1180.

max out your power target to about 130%, I have mine set to 140% myself
and what do you have a 670 or 680?

ASUS's top tier cards are just a mess this generation for some reason...

TOP strikes again damn you ASUS why you no make stable card. As others have states the top cards tend to be unstable for some reason or anothe my suggestion is RMA it for a standard DCU2 680 and overclock yourself.

As weird as it is, the standard and OC models can reach 1300+. It's just something with the DCUII TOP BIOS.

Far Cry 3 always crashes for me if I overclock the GPU even just a little bit. I have to revert it to stock clocks for crash-free gameplay. Having said that, I haven't tried it with the latest patch (from a few weeks back) which may have fixed that.

Yeah the TOP has a bad reputation....best to avoid.

There was a BIOS update released last year that supposedly helped, might wanna check it out.

Well of course, you make a valid point.
    You've
never had a problem with your card so obviously this qualifies you to speak on behalf of everyone who has issues with the TOP.

You should tell that to ASUS too since they definitely did it wrong with the TOP.

The 680 TOP doesn't have these problems as far as i know. Only the 670.

I know a few people with the 680 and they don't have issues.

Thread title says 680 but this is about the 670 right?

I'm not really sure what point that screenshot is trying to make. You could enter those search terms for any card and get results - that's the whole point of a search engine.

The 7970 TOP has the same stability problems as well I have first hand experience with it. OP if the card is unstable as factory default it is a faulty unit RMA it for either a replacement or refund and get a non-TOP model.

It does, just not as widespread as the 670.

Just pure instability out of the box would driver crash in Battlefield 3 at default and looping heaven had to lower clocks. The voltage is locked so I could not add a few mV to gain stability. Here's the best part when I pulled the BIOS off the card with GPU-z it was labeled something along the lines of test bois or the likes I tried to flash a normal DCU2 BOIS on the card but my motherboard does not like mismatched device IDs so it would not display. In the end I sent it back for a refund and the rest is history.

so top is unstable in both nvidia and amd. dont know what asus was thinking with the top bios, trying to get out the fastest oc cards out to increase sales maybe? without caring about stability

Asus released a BIOS update shortly after launch that seemed to help. My card was stable but I applied the update anyway but then wished I hadn't bothered. :/

Before banging on about the 670 Top being problematic do some research to see if the BIOS update helped people out.

Oh and by the way a lot of people experiencing red screen problems finally pinned the issue on the Asus OC software and not the actual card.
