Hi! I wonder which one I should buy. They are in the same price range but I don't know much about the 6800xt hard too find any good information about it. The cards full names is: Asus GeForce N6800XT/TD 128MB AGP8x Asus GeForce N6600GT/TD 128MB AGP8x it's hard to decide so please help me :O
The 6600GT will be faster in most tests, but the 6800XT is unlockable. This means that the used 8 pixelshaders and 4 vertexshaders, can be pushed to 16 pixelshaders and 6 vertexshaders. This last only works good if the pipes are OK, if not you could be unlucky and must run @ 12/6. The card then outclasses the 6600GT in every test.... if you overclock it a bit... you can make it almost 2x faster than a stock 6800XT. (this is when you are able to unlock it) Also, the 6600GT uses 128bit memory, instead of the 256bit that the 6800 card uses. My opinion: buy that 6800XT!
Hmms ok i've found some new info on these cards. ASUS ..................................GF6600GT / GF6800XT RAMDAC:..................... 2x400mhz / 400mhz GPU Core Clock:.............. 500mhz / 350mhz Memory Size:................... 128MB / 128MB Memory Type:...... SDRAM"DDR III" / GDDR3 Memory Speed:............. 900 MHz / 600MHz Memory Data Bus:.......... 128bits / 256bits bah everything except the data bus seems better :\
The data bus is probably the most important part too. The 256-bit bus of the 6800XT will give it a huge lead when any AA/AF is turned on. I personally would go for the 6800XT, overclock it and try and open some pipes/shaders
Hmms ok, if I buy the 6800xt is there any guide how to unlock and oc it. And what is the chanses for the card to burn? :/
use rivatuner and read the guides with it the chances for it to die is slim as only if u unlock a seriously damaged quad, but i doubt it as most people did not hav a problem, is so relocking solved it
I've been reading some in tijsva thread: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=168752 It seems complicated so I must buy a better cooler for it?
if the cooling works fine wen u recive it then well, u dont need to, but if u plan on ocing then u should i would recommend if u do get a cooler... a NV5 or a good Zalman copper cooller along with Artic silver thermal compound it is not that complicated but would require some testing after the unlocking to make sure the pipelines are not damaged usually, these pipelines are locked for a reason so dont expect guarenteed results also ur cpu may kinda bottleneck it there.... good luck there
