    http://www.sapphiretech.com/at/support/drivers.php

Users reported that the card doesnt sound like jet engine before take off and no need to use CCC fan fix. Also theres is the report that game crashes are gone. What crashes? Except stalker i hadnt got any crashes.

Sapphire's flashing instructions suck -- someone want to write me a short guide on how what I'm supposed to do with that download?

    1. Boot in pure Dos mode. That means you need a bootable floppy or USB Stick
    2. On an USB Stick, copy the content of the 578.zip archive which you have downloaded
    3. After booting from floppy or USB stick do this:
Assuming your drive letter for stick is X, type:

    CD X:
    cd \flash
    flash

After all this, your current bios will be saved on the stick and the new one will be written.

    Good Luck!

Hey man, thanks for the guide. Can I just create an MS-DOS bootable floppy in WinXP and boot with that? Is MS-DOS the same as Pure DOS?

Yes, you cand do it. Pure DOS means MS-DOS without any other drivers loaded. The method you mentioned is OK.

I just tried booting off the MS-DOS bootable disk and I got to a command prompt of sorts, where it just said:

    A:\>

    ... Okay, so I wrote:

    A:\>flash\flash

And it gave me some funny "bad command or file name" message. Of course, since it didn't try to flash anything, my system booted up just fine afterwards, but I'd really love some more insight on what it is exactly that I need to write.

PS: How do I exit that DOS prompt mode without hard-resetting my PC? :nerd:

Have you copied the flash directory and all its contents on the floppy? I don't think so! Copy the files on the floppy and it will work. Or use a flash usb and put the flash directory there. Look at my instructions again!

I did copy the flash directory on my bootable MS-DOS floppy. The four files in the floppy are:
    • A:\flash\1E8501SA.002
    • A:\flash\atiflash.exe
    • A:\flash\flash.bat
    • A:\flash\Readme First.txt
... In addition to some other crap Windows put on it to make it a bootable MD-DOS floppy. I have tried to write:

    A:\>flash\atiflash -p 0 1e8501sa.002 -f

... But it said that the file 1e8501sa.002 is invalid or something, even though I'm positive I'm trying to flash the correct bios! Could someone who has successfully flashed their HD4870 with this particular bios please write step-by-step instructions on how you did it?

Updated my Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512!

    Running 2D @ 350/450 voltage 1.083 - fan 28% = temp 45-46c idle! :D

The temp was 56-58c with old bios, same clock and fan speed!

Also now i can clock my card without game crashes!

    3D @ 820/1100 voltage 1.263 - Fan auto = never over 70c load :D

So for me this new bios is great :)

    Bless
