True, but try selling a full price game to people when it doesn't have those things, won't be easy if you're new to the series.

I worry the next game will suffer, more likely to play it safe.

This feels like a trick question on a forum like this, HD means more than 720p so a TV higher than 720p.
You don't need a 1080p TV for something like SkyHD, but displaying 1080i looks better on one....

Neither next gen or HD ready TV is not 100% marketing crap, they are just ways of making it easier for people who know zero about tech to know if something is better or not.
Both terms do get abused...
