Hi everyone They are the same price. Which one I choose? ASROCK Z87 KILLER or ASUS Z87-A This is for a new PC I'm building, I already have an i5 CPU and 4GB of RAM Thanks EDIT: There's also this one: MSI Z87-G45-GAMING. Witch one is more reliable and better for OC?
MSI or ASROCK, the ASUS Z87-A board is a lower end Z87 board from the Z87 line for ASUS and over on ASUS ROG boards, people that have gotten the Z87-A boards have had various issues with that particular board.
Just be aware, you need more than 4 GB of RAM, should go with 8 GB minimum of no less than DDR3-1600. Ideally, DDR3-2133 or higher. You also need 64-bit Windows, preferably Windows 8.1. If you currently have 32-bit Windows 7, that will be no good. More info would be good. What i5 processor is it? What will you be using the computer for?
Oh ok MSI then. I thinking about buying this: KINGSTON KIT 8GB DDR3 1866MHZ BEAST This motherboard supports it? On the website it says this: DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*/2200*/2400*/2600*/2666*/2800*/3000*(*OC) MHz Why is there the * ? Or should I have this one: KINGSTON KIT 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ HYPERX BLACK
Works fine here Suitable for, at least, moderate overclocking too. No issues with my setup. Motherboard related, that is...
Motherboard supports that RAM just fine . The star is because it is technically in overclock mode, but that doesn't really mean much as it's 'on-paper'. On Ivy Bridge processors and up (including Haswell and Haswell Refresh), 2133 is the better choice if it doesn't cost much more than 1866. Since Z97 boards are compatible with current Haswell CPU's, it makes sense to wait until the new boards are available (around 3 weeks...).
The chief issue that one user is having the onboard sound, and I think the other issue is bios related, not sure on that.
^ okay, I don't use onboard sound (or any onboard device for that matter) so there could be issues. Using the latest BIOS surely solves a lot of problems, the entire Z87 series has received numerous updates. My board for example shipped with a BIOS version which wasn't even listed on the Asus site. Some factory-default I assume, furthermore meaning it probably was a very early revision too. There was actually something weird about the BIOS behavior now that I think about it. Flashing the BIOS was one of the first things I did so I possibly avoided some issues to begin with. Long story short, I personally can recommend the Z87-A, with the latest BIOS...
may try msi z87 though nice mobo, if you want do gaming and oc, try it (may want to wait z97 then) but if you just want work with oc, plz pick up an OC mobo lol
vote for MSI 1st, Asus 2ed, and....no 3rd lol anyway, if you dont mind the budget, may try GD65, or wait for Z97 mb
