Former top Microsoft exec says world is over the PC(fixed) Not sure if this has already been posted http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/03/08/us-microsoft-ozzie-idUKBRE82706220120308 My opinion WTF is this guy on or to quote Sheldon Cooper " and thats your opinion"
The world is hovering over my PC you say? I'm not sure whats going on either You posted a link to create a new thread on this site.
I still see tablets as toys to be completely honest. I see Windows 8 with something like the Asus Prime as something worth getting because it'd probably be a cheap touch-screen notebook.
i`d like to see arma2 Oa + ace mod with maxed out graphics on a pidley ipad let alone a console running at 1080p and upwards
If phone and tablet os' become less restricted and the hardware becomes MUCH faster, they can replace my PC. As of now, you're stuck with gimicky underpowered hardware and software with huge restrictions. There's a nice evolution going on, but it hasn't cought up yet. It's becoming or is already more mainstream to have a smartphone than a fast PC, but why people often try to be doom-messiah's is beyond me.
He doesnt know what he's saying. It just started to spread its wings with next-gen gfx, how can it be over? lol what a tool
eventually tablets will replace the PC. dock your tablet and bam it's pretty much like a PC. this wont really happen for another 5-10 years though, imo. @_@ who knows
The next big computer form to replace the pc is yet to emerge, but my crystal ball is foggy at the moment so I can't help you out there.
Only drawback for me is Screen Size...Sure, if I am away from the house...But when I get back Home...I need my 32" Samsung... Handheld devices are bad for Some people...Proof...>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg11glsBW4Y
Until heat issues are solved in very small form factors, there will always be higher power PCs. It will be a long time before tablets are fast enough to keep up with the latest high detail games.
This..... there is always an equilibrium between how powerful a certain devices is and how much heat / battery it emits / sucks. So far heat is still a problem even with die shrinks. As for batteries there hasnt been any Major advancements that will make you go wow thats a big battery life. Also the tablet docking and going into a full fledged PC i could see that happening like the dock for example to work as a booster for the current tablet to enhance it and make it more powerful. Though not sure if they can work out the kinks if they ever get around to use this concept.
lol Try run Windows on it. Try do anything other than surf the web or watch a movie on it. Sure it's a fantastic system, being so small and programmable, but powerful it is not.
Surfing the web might even prove a challenge depending on the OS that's being used with it, it's only a 700mhz ARM11 SoC with 256mb.
I know - I have one on pre-order I don't think web will be an issue should you require it, there are lightweight browsers etc for Linux available. After all, if you can get a semi-decent browser on a phone, why not on this?
