    Hello guys,

I'm building a new pc and I wonder if you guys could vet my parts and/or give me better suggestions for them (lower price for almost same quality etc). This will be a gaming rig. I also use it for work. Multitasking is a must.

My budget is $1,650 (not including shipping).

    Here are my parts:

    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 329.99

    MOBO: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel . 239.99

    RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 74.99

    GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N670OC-2GD GeForce GTX 670 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 399.99

    HDD: Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD5000HHTZ 500GB 10000 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" 149.99

CPU Cooler: CORSAIR Hydro series H50 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler 59.99

    OS: Windows 7 Home 64 99.99

    DVD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 19.99

    PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 129.99

    Case: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001RD 119.99

    Total: 1,624.99

Let me know of better options, and if the parts don't match.
I want that case though, so I won't be changing that.

    Thanks in advance.

    What kind?

Multitasking means nothing these days, if you dont specify what type of it...

It's like I say multitasking is a must, yet I listen to music while playing video games...

Even mobile phones are multitasking capable today...

Specify for what so people can specifically help you!

Otherwise I dont see why would you need a 3770K and/or 670, which can easily be replaced with 7950, hence more VRAM and when OC'ed it surpasses stock 7970(reference card), so money wise its better investment.

mainly excel spreadsheet, music, browsing, video while in-game etc.

The game i have in mind is Rome 2 Total war. I'm not familiar with ocing GPU, and also worried about the temp.

that's very badly put together. things you want to change:

    the motherboard - get a cheaper motherboard, a z77 Asus/Gigabyte/Asrock for around $150.
the hard drive - get rid of that raptor and instead get a ssd and a 1tb hdd.

other than that, not too bad, I would also scrap that H50, it's not good value for money. with these changes you'll have a much better performing pc on the same budget. also, get a 3rd party cpu cooler.

Dont be worried, people here will help you 100%, that's how I good hooked up to this forum as well, everyone is so helpful and I've learned a lot, now that set aside.

I think you would be better with 3570K, there's no need for 3770K, OC'ing wise there are countless tutorials on how to OC, but a lot of people here are familiar with it, and can help you with that if its your first time in OC'ing!

I would recommend personally a 7970 instead of 670, if your budget allows it, IF you take 3570K.

7970 is fast enough and has more VRAM than 670, but its all a matter of preference tbh...

You dont need more then 8 gigs of RAM, if you are going to play games and use excel... xD

In fact if you are about to use only excel for work and play games, I was right, just take 3570K and 7950 or 7970, and that will keep you good for quite some time!

You also dont need 750Watt, if you dont plan to SLI later on, and that HDD is just atrocious...there are a lot of better ones.

It would help a ton if you would say what country are you from and maybe post a link here on what store do you prefere as your place of buying all this.

EDIT: Oh and get a cheaper motherboard, that is just massive OVERKILL written all over it.

For this kind of multitask you don't need 3770k. You just need 8Gb of memory. 3570k would be enough, even without overclocking.

I agree with you, an SSD and at least a 1gb HDD would be better than the Raptor.

Erm... yeah.. well I don't know, maybe it's super fast? XD :D

Anyways.. yeah maybe you could get an SSD and some 500GB or 1TB HDD instead of that. Well it really wouldn't matter for me in the end.. just as long as I have enough space lol :D

Anyways, some lesser Asus, Gigabyte or ASRock mobo there.

For a case this could work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...isNodeId=1&Description=corsair+300r&x=31&y=16 (very good mid tower case, one of the best as well)

This for CPU cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029 (extremely good cooler for its price, one of the best airs)

And then for a mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128544

And also for the 3570k 3770k question, 3770k has HT so if you have the budget and are willing to spend more for that then sure, definitely get the 3770k with HT. Although it might not make such a big difference, it'll still have some use definitely in the future I'm sure.. so you'll be better off with the 3770k I think. But if you want to save as much as you can, then 3570k will be fine as well.

this motherboard will serve you just fine, and it is a board with almost perfect balance performance/features/per dollar.
    http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77 Pro4/
the choice between 3570k and 3770k is a easy or a hard one.
if you are really in editing video and really compler rendering compiling CAD work get the latter.
for a modern computer and with this budget get and SSD and 1TB of spinning rust.Intel,Samsung Crucial are some of best SSD manufacturers, but also are others.
    now,just nitpicking.
do you really need that high speed RAM?
i would go with 1600 and call it a day.the difference is not worth the hassle.
ATI 7950 gives more VRAM and OC like crazy.
a good 600 650 W PSU is more than enough,Seasonic Corsair are very popular.

donĀ“t overspend.it is a computer, it gets always outdated .buy what you really need

Newegg or Tiger direct would be preferable.

And thanks everyone for all the advice, i'll redo the parts and post it in a bit.

and the Hydro series is a bad idea? A couple of my friends recommend that to me as they're using it. Could anyone point me to a good liquid cooled one? Or is it better to use air cooled.

    Edit:

    CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k
    219.99

    MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H LGA 1155 Intel 139.99

    RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB 240pin DDR3 1600 62.99

HD: Since someone said the raptor was a bad idea, i still need some recommendation here.

    PSU: Rosewill CAPSTONE Series CAPSTONE-650-M 650W ATX12V
    99.99

    CPU Cooler: Liquid or air?

GPU: could someone recommend a good one? from $400-$550

OS: Win 7 Home Prem 64
    99.99

DVD burner: ASUS 24X DVD Burner
    19.99

    Case: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001RD
    119.99

Total: 762.93 (excluding GPU, HD, and CPU cooler).

    Yeah.. GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...k=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=2

SSD, something like this, pretty solid http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147189

    HDD, also obvious choice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

    For a CPU cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

[IMG] some random pic I found from techpowerups site, so that's $50 vs $94. It even looks like that's the old Dark Knight (the newer DK II is better). I would say it's worth it. (Planning to get it myself)

Also, nice PSU choice. Did a bit of a research on all the components there.. this should do you good.

Added everything together, roughly $1540 for all.

Take a 7970 since you managed to save so much money, and you're okay...

    Quick Question,

Will my PSU be able to handle that GPU and everything else?

Yeah why not lol, your whole system will use aprox. under full load about 400 Watt's anyway...

It wont even get near 650W

I would go back to the DDR3-2133. It really is no effort! It does make a difference with some things such as video encoding and other compression, and yes it does make a difference in gaming too (albeit a small one, but sometimes a couple of frames per second distinguishes between playable and not playable, and you can increase some of the settings etc).

I should point out that Ivy (second gen socket 1155 processors) makes use of 2133 much better than Sandy does (first gen socket 1155/socket 2011 processors), and certainly more than older computers using DDR3.

Yeah, he's right in that. If there is a little or no price difference then certainly go for the higher speed memory.
