    Hi Folks,

I am getting that itch again to upgrade my PC. The problem is I don't keep up to date on the component side of things as much as I used to so I am looking for some suggestions.

My PC isn't exactly a doorstop, it's still a decent set up given that I bought the motherboard, processor, ram etc back in 2012/13. Obviously the 970 is a little bit newer.

What I am struggling to decide is whether or not I upgrade from the 970 to the 1070 (I currently game on a 27" iiyama 1080p monitor).
    OR
Do I buy one of these higher Hz monitors with Gsync
    OR
Do I buy a newer generation of processor/motherboard/ram

Any opinions would be welcome and very much appreciated!

Start from monitor. Gsync is good if you just want play on higher settings without bothering keeping steady fps. The problem with Gsync is price and Nvidia dependance.

As you get used to monitor, you probably gonna want higher frames and better graphics settings. GTX 1080 would be good for 1440p@144hz.

FreeSync is cheaper, but it brings you the same (AMD) dependence.
Except there is nothing to buy when you decide to upgrade your GPU.

Been stuck with this 290 for ages.
