Can anyone recommend a good video converter/ripper to get DVD's into a decent format for a smartphone? Id like some not too huge files (under a gig if possible) but decent picture quality (not fussed about HD). The player I use is MX player (android) so it should handle most file types but its just getting the movie file into a manageable size and still watchable. Thanks
Try "Any Video Converter". It has a free version. I've been using it for my smartphone and iPad mini and I'm happy with it.
I recommend Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) but you will need a decrypter like AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html), Slysoft gives you a full 30days to try it.
Aimersoft's offering is excellent, but it's not free if you wish to avoid seeing 'watermarks' on your screen.
