Hey guys, I just decided to build a new HTPC for my parents. I settled on the following specs to keep it low cost while allowing it to run programs for a very long time to come: AMD A8-5800K Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-D3H G.Skill Ares 2x4GB DDR3-1600 And a reused Seagate 160GB 7200RPM SATA (which might be changed to an SSD in the near future) and Samsung F4 2TB Frontier Opera OP17A-BK/SV HTPC case with 400w PSU Win 7 Ultimate x64 Pics and benches to come soon. In particular, Smooth Video Project.
It actually looks very refined in person, lots of glossy plastic. Fits right in with most DVD players and all, it also doesn't have the blue light strip (at least my version doesn't). Build quality is absolute sh!t, but you get what you pay for and I for one couldn't care less about build quality on something that is never going to be moved or handled in any way.... though I do wish the front buttons felt a bit more firm. And for $69 (computer equipment is on average 15%-30% more expensive where I live) for an HTPC case and a 400w PSU, it's a steal. It also nicely hides away on the bottom right front a panel that is push opened and accesses a 3.5" bay (card reader, etc) and two USB ports. Did I mention that it can handle full size ATX boards and PSII power supplies?
Here is the SVP Mark 3.03a result. Build pics: Here's the crap PSU I replaced right away, thing weighed nothing: And here is where I had a problem. On the power button, only one of the two power cables was stripped, I just stripped the other one manually and held it down with electric tape. Here is a close up of the power switch:
