They really need to be launching models with PCB only, I've been removing the HSF and replacing with a block since I bought an NV7800gtx.

So 1kw draw becoming the new threshold of upper end pc gaming?

Can't say I think this is a generally good thing.

Not even the 4090 uses it's available 600w design, it's more like 450w and with some tweaking it can go much lower without any significant performance loss.

The 5000 series is probably going to be as efficient once people start tweaking the power limits.

I smell a heavy solution and PCBs that keep breaking. Will we continue to see connectors burn?

Well the full die GA102 would indeed be able to use 600W in heavy ray traced title, so Blackwell would be about the same.

I could say 600 Watts. well, that's just weird.
But some years ago our living room had a couple of those tatty chandeliers for lighting and used the old incandescent bulb and they sucked about 1000 watts.
Thankfully we have upgraded to more moderate digital lighting. RGB :p

... and doubled up as a space heater.

I remember a time, many years ago, sometime somewhere behind the "iron curtain", we had no heating in the house in the winter. But we had light bulbs, 100W and 120W, plenty of them. So.... we made it bright. And warm.

... was all nice until the building fuse blew up, as everyone was doing the same thing (in various ways)

Not if they use two for the 5080 and 5090.

I guess melting 12V power cables is not enough at current power draw.

its fine as long as it justified by the performance and efficiency. If you want less wattage you can always undervolt or limit your framerates, like I did.

Yeah, it would be nice. Then again, there are cards that come with a water block installed like the inno3D iChill Frostbite series, for example.

We seriously need a cap on these. 300 W max.
