Almost none. There will be a few outspoken nerds, and then no one will care. I don't know how I feel about it. Initially, I want to say I don't like the idea of blocking websites from users...But then I think, the stuff they host is illegal. For every legitimate file they have, there's hundreds or thousands of illegal ones. So I'm unsure.
It has been blocked in Belgium for a while now. There are many ways around it so for those who use it nothing really changes.
What a waste of time, because it will be so hard to get past the block? Or for people to find an alternative ?
Basically what will happen is, the few people who use the site for legit reasons will complain but not much (as there are other means) and the people who use it a lot for illegal downloads won't care at all as they'll just use a proxy for searching/getting links. Anyways i'm not a fan of net censorship so i chalk this up to a stepping stone that will most likely lead to a bad place, regardless i'll place money that TPB will do what they did with the belguim order and just make a new UK address to use.
True that they host a lot of illegal material, but this won't stop them, there's always a workaround, like so; How to Unblock The Pirate Bay Basic stuff really.
Technically they host files that link to files that link to (illegal) software Censorship isn't a good thing, shows there's a disconnect in what ought to be and what is in the legal system. BREIN (the foundation that represents the media industry in the Netherlands) has already admitted that this is only one of many stepping stones that are needed to get to the measures they would like to see. They know very well that if they would propose regulation that they truly want, there would be a public outcry they could never cope with. This way though.....
Cool, so I guess this means that people wont download games without paying for them anymore and companies like EA and Ubisoft will lower game prices?
In your dreams! Prices will never go down, more likely go up. 70 euro's for most PS3 games when released? Ok, they make it 69 euro's to make you feel a little bit better. And that console almost has no piracy. Most games are hardly worth downloading let alone acquiring them legally. EA and pals will always find new ways to nail legit buyers. Gotta love legally bought games on Steam that require GFWL + securom + Rock* Social for example + limited number of reinstalls. And some DRM software can't be revoked. Looking at you, Tages! Nah, gaming is becoming less and less fun lately. I see no entertainment in maintaining a list of revocations when doing an OS reinstall.
TPB uses magnet links, which are links that give you links to links of files. At this point, TPB isn't any different than Google.
True, but i recon if you asked the people who past the bill what google is, they'd say "what on earth is a google?". Simply put, the people who pass these bills have no idea about the internet at all.
