  • Signatures
Signatures are disabled in this forum. However, an exception is made for those members that are active Folders (members running the F@H Client) If you are an active folder, you can request enabling your signature by visiting Folding Signatures In Forums For Team Guru3D
  • Avatars
To be able to have a custom avatar, you need at least 100 posts. Your picture must be 100 by 100 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller) You can then go to "User CP" and under "Settings and Options", select "Edit Avatar". You can then select "Use Custom Avatar". You can either provide the URL to the image or upload it from your system to Guru3D's Servers. (You donít need IMG tags for this)
  • Post Counts & Rankings
As you acquire more posts, you will get different rank next to your user name. Below is the list of them and the number of posts required:
  • Newbie - Minimum Posts: 0
  • Member Guru - Minimum Posts: 45
  • Master Guru - Minimum Posts: 150
  • Maha Guru - Minimum Posts: 800
  • Ancient Guru - Minimum Posts: 2750
  • Custom Names & Titles
You may see many people with custom titles and perhaps see some people change their names. This is a simple but manual procedure that can only be performed by administrators. So we only change names if you have a valid reason and are a more regular visitor. Custom titles are meant just for mods and a few people around here that we pick on every now and then! e.g. ub3r_0c3r: Can i change my name to su43r_ub3r_0c3r cos i feel like it? Admin/Mod: No!
  • Spam
There are many definitions of spam, we here at guru prefer to speak to each other rather than fill a thread full of useless text. If however you do want to spam, then either fight the urge, or do it somewhere else!
  • Virus & Malware Reports
Guru3D like most free sites is partly funded by advertising. The ad provider we use puts different adverts into certain sections of the forums and main page without input from us. Very very rarely we see reports of viruses, malware, etc being introduced through these adverts. If you are very unlucky to spot one of these, please tell us ASAP by following these guidelines: (PM an Admin/Mod or make a thread in this section)
  1. Take a screenshot with of the top banner (small) ad clearly visible
  2. Using the right mouse button copy and paste the properties and URL of the ad
  3. Let us know your location, the exact time when it happened
We will then send this info to the ad guys to check out.
  • Forum Rules (You Must Read & Accepted These)
Registration to this forum is free! We do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below. If you agree to the terms, please check the "I agree" checkbox and click the "Register" button below. If you would like to cancel the registration, click here to return to the forums index. Although the administrators and moderators of Guru3D.com Forums will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of Guru3D.com Forums, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message. By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violate any laws. The owners of Guru3D.com Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread and remove the responsible user for any reason.
  • How To "Post" Images/Screenshots & Other files in a graphic/image format
Now let me start off by showing you the basics steps for posting images:
  1. Edit your Image to a maximum size of 1280x1024 Pixel
  2. Upload your image to an FTP (Usually you are provided with one from your ISP) or an Image Hosting provider (http://www.imageshack.us"target="_blank" style="color: #22229c">http://www.imageshack.us)
  3. After uploading your image to an FTP, copy the URL of your Image. Supposedly you are in the Posting window, You can do one of these two ways:
  • A) On the top of your posting text box there will be a little click-able box that says "IMG", a pop-up will appear and you will be asked for the Image URL. Paste the URL into that field and click "OK"
  • B) This step is a bit more code needy but less time consuming for me. While you are in the posting window type [IMG] (Make sure there are no spaces) then Paste the URL of your Image after the code then type [/IMG]
Your Image should successfully be viewable after you have posted your post.
  • War, Politics & Oil Threads
Unfortunately it is a result of multiple users not being able to argue without flaming and insulting other members. Moderating this section takes more time than any other part of the forum, which to me is the opposite way round. So instead of sending PM's/Infractions, Admins/Mods of this section will close any war & oil threads without warning. Political threads and other border line issues may also be closed without warning. There will be no argument of this decision. Any gross infringements of any of the above will most likely result in an automatic ban.
  • Asking For Free Hardware Threads
Long story short, we do not allow such threads any longer. Most of these threads start with good intention with people helping someone out. Though we respect that, surely you guys have noticed that the latest threads on these where a little weird. There are several more reasons to not allow these threads but it is what it is. This rule will be added and is already enforced. Flip-side of this is if you have something you like to give-away/share, go to the 4-sale section where you can give it away. In the future there always can be an exception to the rule, but you'll need to discuss it with the staff upfront before it's allowed to be posted.

Dear Newbie, Veteran, Alien

Here at the Guru of 3D forums, there are many intelligent people with a great source of knowledge for you to learn from. These people are here because they generally want to help you out.

So for the best answer to your question try the following:
  • Use the search feature. Its more than likely that someone has addressed your question before.
  • Enter a short description of your problem in the subject header. e.g. Flickering screen during games. Try to avoid subject headers such as: Help me please, I am stuck.
  • Describe your problem, to the best of your ability
  • In the thread, try to list as much information relevant to the problem as possible. e.g. driver revisions, system specs, program settings.
  • Be honest. If you don't know what some of us are talking about, then say something !! We can get too technical sometimes, so smack us !!
  • Ask questions that you have tried to research on the net before hand. Google is the king of finding information. You would be doing yourself a favour by do this.
  • There are threads in some section called sticky's. They have been put there by forum leaders. These threads usually contain very valuble information relative to that section. Have a quick read. You will never know what you will find !!

The people that come to these forums are not just weirdo's that sit behind a qwerty block all day. Most of them do this for fun. Real people come here for real answers, and if done right, we can all have fun whilst helping each other.
So enjoy your stay here, hopefully you will find what you are looking for.

As a side note. If you are having a problem with a certain person or persons in this forum. Then you can report the thread in question, or private message the mod of that section. The mods will pass on your concerns to admin and the other mods in a special moderator section. We will sort out your situation as quickly and fairly as we can.

No content of pornographical nature and any commercial activities like advertising a product, website or for that matter any commercial service is allowed. This includes hotlinks towards competing and commercial websites. Furthermore, anything even slightly related towards illegal software, services and activities are strictly forbidden.
