Exclamation Proper way to uninstall ATI drivers... - 11-11-2008, 08:06 | posts: 269 | Location: In a box room with a computer | User is Offline

Last night i tried to uninstall the 8.10s hotfixes and wanted to try the 8.10's without the hotfixes. Well let me tell you it screwed up my system bad enough where i ended up having to reformat the drive.(I think i did some other problems also so im not sure but i think it was little bit of both). Any back to the driver problem. When i would remove the hotfixes drivers they would uninstall just fine.
I downloaded the 8,10 (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...common-vista64) The very 1st one on the page.Download went to install, they installed fine told me to restart and once i restarted the system And when windows load it would say my card could not start due to corrupted drivers. So i tried uninstall the drivers and thats when all heck broke lose It would start to uninstall and then the system just hanged(stuck in a loop action)So i had to restart the system, after it restarted

Went to uninstall driver and it worked fine.So again i restarted the pc went to try and download the drivers again and would only get a PART.file.The exe file was not showing up,so i had no way of installing drivers. Anything i downloaded i only got a PART.file Not sure what happend but it screwed up my pc pretty good. So my question is how does one uninstall and install these ATI drivers. It been along time since i ran ATI and not sure what happen or what todo.

I want to add another question to my above rant.
Im running this card here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102801

and while looking for other people with the same complaints or problems i ran across this topic/post which is almost like my problem. This user just explain the problem hell of alot better then i did,

http://www.driverheaven.net/vista-ra...-problems.html

Reading Post number 6 By Judus "he said the only the problems i've ever had was due to non reference cards " Well guess what im running a non reference,My pcb board is not the ATI red so its not a reference card right?? . Now my question is Should i use the drivers for the ATI site or the drivers from the card site http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/support/drivers.php

IF i ever get the understanding of these fing drivers i would be happy

These .part files are created by your download manager and not by AMD/ATI. Probably a FireFox issue.

First uninstall ATT or RivaTuner if you have those.

To uninstall CCC use the uninstall option in Programs or Features (or Software) of the Control Panel. There are several ones for ATI. Don't worry if it fails.

Reboot and press F8 and start Windows in Safe Mode. Make sure you don't accidentally start it in normal mode. Then run Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper. That will clean up any remnants left.

Reboot and start Windows in normal mode.

That's it.

Make also sure you have uninstalled any nVidia drivers and utilities (and again use the Safe Mode method to cleanup any remnants) before installing CCC.

I've read that some people needed to reinstall Windows to get rid of the nVidia stuff.

If the new ATI drivers fail again then try the drivers that came with the card until ATI starts supporting them.

Good luck.

Go to add remove programs, click on the ctalyst control and click the 3rd option down I thin its express uninstall. Once that is done it will ask for reboot.

Go ahead and reboot and hit F8 and enter in safe mode in safe mode run Driver cleaner and check the box about mulitple files move everything that says ATI in it and hit begin. Takes about 30 mins to run. WHen thats done restart into regual windows. Then install your new drivers.

To uninstall ATI drivers use this program:

Catalyst Uninstaller

It will uninstall all things ATI
I've used this for a lot of years.
Works like a charm.

But that is from 2003... It's still reliable with todays drivers?
